St. Joseph's Hospice Receives Additional One-Time Funding

St. Joseph’s Hospice is thrilled to announce we are receiving an additional one-time funding from the Ontario Government.

The Ministry of Health is investing up to $147.4 million over three years to expand hospice palliative care services across the province and improve support for hospice residences.

The announcement is in direct response to calls to strengthen the hospice palliative care sector to meet the inevitably growing demand for palliative and end of life care. The Government of Ontario is recognizing the important care hospices across the province provide in the final days of our loved one’s lives, by providing additional one-time funding for nursing, personal support and other services delivered to residents and clients in 84 hospice residences across the province.

“We are truly thankful to the Ontario Government for their continued investments and unwavering support of hospice care. We would like to thank our MPP, Bob Bailey, for continually advocating in support of hospice, and assure the government that their additional support will help us to continue to provide high quality end of life care to our community. We are grateful for the government’s recognition of the increased inflation pressures and cost increases that are impacting our budget,” said Kelly Chartrand, Executive Director.

“This funding could not have come at a better time, this fiscal year the Board of Directors approved a deficit budget of $800,000 which means the one-time funding of $473,000 will help reduce our deficit budget. St. Joseph’s Hospice will need to fundraise $2 million versus $2.5 million this year to continue to provide our programs and services to the community of Sarnia Lambton free of charge and keep our doors open. The Ministry of Health will provide St. Joseph’s Hospice of Sarnia Lambton $473,000 for the fiscal year 2023-2024 and an additional $473,000 for the fiscal year 2024-2025.” said Maria Muscedere, Director of Fund Development & Community Relations.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, our care team, staff, and volunteers, we want to thank the Government of Ontario for their financial support which will ensure that we meet the needs of our residents and their families at end-of-life,” said Kelly Chartrand, Executive Director.
