Point Edward Gold Gives Back to Hospice!

On January 10, 2018, four Point Edwardians presented a cheque in the amount of $500 to St. Joseph’s Hospice. The money raised came from the sales of Point Edward Gold! Point Edward is home to some of the world’s healthiest maple trees. In 2016, Jack Lea (a lifelong Point Edward resident) and his neighbours harvested the sap of the area’s maple trees. Studying the historical art of maple syrup production and applying modern environmentally friendly cooking techniques, the first modern syrup was made.

Over 25 tasters endorsed Point Edward Gold as one of the finest maple syrups! In 2017, production expanded with the goal of fundraising for both St. Joseph’s Hospice and the Inn of the Good Shepherd. Jack enlisted the assistance of fellow Point Edwardians; Dale Pugsley, Dick Williams, Carol Lucas, Doug Mackenzie, Lloyd Churchill, Ava Lucas, Ian McDonald, Terry Ashe, Kerrie Eldridge, Marion Strangway, Marie Wilcox, Norah Eldridge, Michelle LeNeve, Doris Williams, and Tom Chesher. Together, they raised $500 for each charity!

We are so appreciative and thankful to all those involved with the creation and sales of Point Edward Gold and for choosing St. Joseph’s Hospice as a beneficiary of the funds raised. While St. Joseph’s Hospice recognizes the financial support their donation brings, those we serve remain the true beneficiaries of their generosity!
